can go through life
committed to being
oppressed

if self deprecation
is the armour
you wear to protect yourself
from what once was
and what may never be
I wonder if it shields you from actually believing
in the slightest of possibilities
that this peaceful moment
when I’m looking at you
between words
or we share a laugh
could be recreated
ten trillion more times
I wonder if you know that that kind of love
can connect you to a new, unchartered source of strength
every day
in every moment
from here on out
with or without me there
